Water damage and insurance: first steps in Texas

For an active loss, address safety and reasonable steps to limit further damage. If you plan to file a claim, document what happened and contact your insurer promptly.

How to document a loss, report it and understand Renova's role.

Document the loss and report it

Photograph the affected areas and damaged belongings, note when you discovered the loss, and keep receipts for emergency work. Report the claim to your insurer and ask about its inspection process, deadlines and any documentation it needs. The Texas Department of Insurance offers a step-by-step claim guide.

Coverage depends on the cause and policy

A plumbing leak, an ongoing leak and outside flooding may be treated differently. The insurer reviews your specific policy and facts to decide coverage and payment. Renova cannot promise that a particular loss will be covered.

What Renova provides

Renova can inspect the property, perform authorized mitigation and provide photos, moisture readings, drying records and a written work scope. You communicate with the insurer about the claim and coverage. Before repairs are scheduled, review the reconstruction scope and payment terms with us.
